Sharing our research with a wider audience, the TRUE Project is hosting and set to host exhibits at several public events including the Oriel Science ‘Imaging’ exhibition and the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences.
As a part of the Oriel Science ‘Imaging’ exhibition in Swansea, we are currently displaying an interactive exhibit on deepfakes and user-generated evidence. This exhibition features a slideshow of AI-generated images, as well as a video about the TRUE project and its aims, which can be viewed on the home page of our website.
As part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences, the team hosted interactive sessions in Cardiff on 26 October 2023; in Swansea on 27 October 2023, and in Bangor on 8 November 2023. At our stall, entitled ‘Online Sleuths: Spot the Deepfakes and Where on Earth?’, participants will be introduced to geolocation and the identification of deepfakes for human rights investigations. In an interactive task, they will be asked to work out the precise geographical co-ordinates of three photos. Some photos from the three sessions can be found here.
